A recent update in the rehab treatment methodologies is the Aquatic Rehabilitation. These types of rehabilitation treatments have opened a new scope for joint related problems to a large extent. The therapists use the means of aquatic exercises like hydraulic exercises, aerobics in water, swimming related activities, etc for the treatment purposes to cure the pains in joints and fixtures. It has proven very effective in offering strength and mobility increment in the limb muscles and joints. The common cases are the individuals suffering with stroke, arthritis, and pains. Similar to the other methodologies of rehabilitation, the aquatic rehab also aims at the designing of treatment as per the individual’s needs and requirements by the therapists to bring back the conditions of the patient to the normal. The patients encountering neuronmuscular and musculoskeletal disorders usually seek for aquatic rehab.
The basic mechanism and science involved in such therapies is the reduction of joint compression due to introduction of buoyancy in aquatic medium as the gravitational forces are reduced. Also, the hydrostatic pressures reduced inflammation. This method offers the comfort and ease of moves when experiencing pain in joints with a balancing and strengthening along with gaining endurance. On an average, the aquatic therapy timings are around forty five minutes long which can differ with the individual requirements.
Aquatic based treatment has proven to be effective for many but in some situations it has been contradictory. For treatments of cases with open wounds, seizures, open ulcers, allergic reactions, or hydro fear, the aquatic rehabilitation remedies have been ineffective and less favored. Rather the land based treatment strategies are more accepted in such scenarios. The therapists are to be concerned prior handedly for any particular case referral and requirements the patients have.
